THE PILLAR (A DAUGHTER'S NOTE)

My favorite family picture of us that night
taken at Daru Folkhouse
On the night of the 3rd of April, we celebrated the birthday of a humble and a very influential man. It was actually a surprise party for him, carefully initiated by his youngest brother, my Tito Vincent Demosthenes "Vivic" Quina, along with the help of the entire clan and a few close friends of this special person. But of course, being the sneaky and wise person that he is, he had a feeling that this was gonna happen during the day of his birthday.
Well, you just can't underestimate the mind of a man who has been through a lot of experiences in life already, who has met different types of people in such different circumstances and who has studied Law before getting into politics. It was still one hell of a surprise though. It was a night full of fun, emotions and truth that the whole family would definitely remember for the rest of our lives. And I'm forever proud to be part of this family. Not to mention, to be the daughter of this important man.

My dear readers, this man is my father. He keeps this family together, that is why he is the pillar. According to the Dictionary, a pillar is a term for upright, a pier, a carrying power, a column, or a post, also a superstructure. Figuratively, it is that which resembles someone as a foundation of strength. But I still believe that everything I've just described him as would be an understatement because he is truly more than all the adjectives and any figure of speech I could ever think of.
Having my Dad as the Mayor of Balingasag is not the first thing I would tell my friends or people who I don't really know yet, unless they find it out first. My main reason for it is because I don't want to use it as a way of bragging or I don't want people to treat me any differently. But as I type these words right now, I really don't care what other people might think of me because I am and will always be proud to be the first daughter of Mayor Alexis Salvacion Quina.
THE HIGHLIGHTS OF THE NIGHT

My sisters Caicai and Greta giving their originally-written speeches to Papang. Caicai got teary-eyed so she asked Greta to come with her on stage. Hahaha!
The Lasaca Family in the house! They came to celebrate with us. Hurray!
Missing our cousins Ate Ellen and Janine on this beautiful event
The Quina cousins make a scene as they dance to Psy's Gentleman
The 3 Big Boys of the Quina family do their common thing and making the party even more alive
Singing with their old man slash very proud father, our dear Papalo
Blowing of the candles that won't ever stop lighting no matter how you try to keep on blowing em -- just like how you are to all of us, Pang!
Thanks to People's Palace for that enormous cake! Happy tummies for all of us.
OUR FIRST GIG EVER! And it's so memorable cause we did it for the fam. I'm so lucky to have a rockstar boyfriend! Thank you, love. You've definitely impressed him with those skills. Hahaha! *winks*
Joining me on stage after a few songs are my fellow music-loving cousins, Boogie, Gong-Gong and Bryan, along with Tito Jong-Jong
Then joined by my youngest sister, Greta, who I sang Let It Go with which was crazy. Hahaha! Didn't know the band knew how to play that song too. Nice one, team!
And yes that's it for the photos. How I wish I could upload every single moment that happened this night but I truly believe that not all moments can be captured by a click of a camera. It was fun while it lasted. The party ended at around 2am or so. Everyone pretty much had a good time. Another event that will surely be talked about as we grow older.
The summary of this night though is the true beauty of having a family. From what I learned through my Dad's speech, family is the greatest treasure anyone could ever have. Success, fame or wealth is only temporary. When everything you have is lost, the people you know you can always count on is your family. It must always be one's priority. And no matter how crazy or annoying yours might be at the moment, they only want what's best for you.
I feel like I'm one of the luckiest girls alive, that's what I've learned during this night. Even though it annoys me a lot to have overprotective parents, I don't regret how strict they were to me even before. How your parents brought you up always reflects so much about anyone. And you just know how loved you are because of how worried they get when you come home late, when you don't answer your phone immediately, or even when they don't allow you to go have overnights every time.
So thank you, Pang! Thank you for raising me up this way, for never getting tired of taking care of me and my sisters, for still loving me no matter how bratty I get and for always showing us the value of family. Raising my glass to you!
TUNE IN NEXT TIME! XOXO

Everyone having a good time. Thank you for the accomodation, Daru Folkhouse! The ambiance is perfect -- old Western style, cool breeze and awesome food!
The eldest sister, Mommy Judith Quina-Damgo, gives an emotional message to his brother, the celebrant.
Uuuy! Sige lang, it's not everyday everyone talks about matters of the heart.
The celebrant's sister and brother-in-law, Mommy Gin and Tito Allan, came home all the way from Qatar for his birthday and to spend time with the whole family.
My sisters Caicai and Greta giving their originally-written speeches to Papang. Caicai got teary-eyed so she asked Greta to come with her on stage. Hahaha!
The Lasaca Family in the house! They came to celebrate with us. Hurray!
Stiff upper lip! Trying my best not to cry as I read my message for my Dad
Shots for everybody!
P.S. Spot the two crammers at the back, getting ready for their presentation. So last minute!
