One afternoon, I had the privilege of attending a gathering all decorated in pink ribbons and women wearing the signature head gear of one of the most renowned heroines of all time. Yes, the women making all this happen are all wonder women indeed.
During my 24 years of existence, I have grown up with strict parents. But between the both of them, I've got a stricter father. There are these eternal struggles of a kid raised by strict parents that not everyone would understand. My father is Alexis Salvacion Quina. He grew up in a town in Misamis Oriental called Balingasag. At an early age, he independently experienced all kinds of struggles in life. Since elementary, he had to go to school and work at the same time for his parents and siblings.

Though it may seem a bit cliché, don't take it that way. It's a relief to hear that people, though too early in the year to say so, do have plans in making this year count. And that's exactly what this post is about.
Why should we make the year count? What's so important about this year compared to all the other years that have gone by? 2016 was a tough year, I must say. It came by swiftly and it also left a lot of bad events along with the good. These series of unfortunate events have only left me a very important lesson which holds true until now. Time is gold. Time is precious. Time and time again, this phrase simply summarizes everything you need to know in the world. The trouble with people like us is that we think we always have time.
I intend to make this a year not wasted, so I've made a sort-of checklist we could all get to enjoy doing. Here are 5 things I would dare you (and myself included) to do for the year 2017. Are you up for it? Let's do this! 🙋
💗❤
1. "This year, I dare myself to save as much as I can."
Go buy yourself a piggy bank or open a bank account. Challenge yourself to put in ₱20, ₱50 or even ₱100 per day, depending on what your goal amount is. But I say, just save what you can and don't think of getting even a peso from your savings. Make it a habit to put something in at least thrice a week or every day would be much better. Later on, you'll be surprised at how much money you can come up with in a year. It's up to you whether you want to use the money to buy something you've always wanted, for your travel funds, or even better, to save it for the rainy days.
2. "This year, I dare myself to travel to a new place."
Unleash your adventurous self! Get out of your comfort zone, take risks and explore the world. It's okay to spend sometimes as long as it's for a good purpose. I personally believe that traveling does wonders for the soul. If you haven't done it the past year, go book that flight now or go on the road trip you've always had in mind. Whether it's that magnificent waterfalls in Cebu you've been looking at on Facebook, that sand boarding thing you've always wanted to do in Ilocos, or maybe even visit those theme parks in HongKong or Singapore, it doesn't matter where. Just go.
3. "This year, I dare myself to keep a planner and write on it till the year ends."
Yes, you read that right. Make use of those planners you've bought! They're not meant for display or for photo purposes, they're meant for exactly what they're called -- for plans. When you keep one, you'll be more organized with your daily activities. You might not notice it instantly but a planner is actually one of life's saving graces. You can't rely on your memory all the time. Your planner will help you think ahead for the whole year and more importantly, you're giving yourself daily reminders which is a big step into becoming a more responsible you.
4. "This year, I dare myself to make my parents feel that I love them so much."
I know for a fact that not all of us are mushy when it comes to family. (Guilty as charged here!) But think about it, when are you gonna show them that you do love them? Don't wait for time to teach you a lesson. Do it now. That's why it's a dare cause it's not gonna be as easy as you think. Write them a letter on a random day. I know we only get to write them long letters during retreats so this one's gonna be so random, they're not gonna expect it. Let them feel that their presence is important to you by hugging them tight every day, cook them breakfast, kiss them when you leave or arrive at your house. There are so many things you can think of, the only challenge is that you must do it.
5. "This year, I dare myself to love myself more and to forgive myself at the same time."
Let me share with you a wonderful piece I've read during the New Year by an anonymous writer. "I support self-love wholeheartedly. You want to post a photo of you looking so fine, do it. You want to walk around stores and check yourself out in the mirror, go ahead. You want to treat yourself with good every day, do it. You want to wear makeup or you don't want to wear makeup, it's up to you. You want to gain weight or lose weight, it's up to you. Do what you want. As long as it makes you happy. You should never be ashamed of what you look like. Go out there and claim your body. This is your life anyway. Why waste your pretty mind on thoughtless critiques?". Reading this made me think that I should appreciate myself more and forgive myself for the times I've made myself feel insecure or unworthy. This year, let's love ourselves and let's help others love themselves too!
The list is endless. Read and finish a novel, try mountain climbing (which is probably next on my list), go learn a new dance, or make a blog! It's a fresh start for you. Though you don't need a new year to begin doing these things, sometimes, a new year could just be a wake-up call for you to make some changes. It's all up to you. Have fun and have a prosperous 2017!

"Once upon a time, there were two sisters. One of them was really, really strong, and one of them wasn't. You looked at me and said, "Your turn!"
I rolled my eyes. The strong sister went outside into the rain and realized the reason she was strong was because she was made out of iron, but it was raining and she rusted.
This was not the end. Why? Because the sister who wasn't strong went outside into the rain when it was raining, and hugged her really tight until the sun came out again."
Have you ever imagined your life as a movie sometimes? I SWEAR THAT'S MY FAVORITE PAST TIME! My life is seriously influenced by books and movies so much that I daydream about it most days. Yes, I'm weird like that.
Finally got to write again after a week of final exams and being sick.
Hello! I've been frequently asked about my relationship with Ton lately so here's my take on that. Thank you for giving me the idea of putting it all in on one blog post. Also, with all the news about couples breaking up (Brangelina for example, *cries*), some even after just a month, I think it's a breath of fresh air to write about couples who are still together until now and fighting the good fight. "Love doesn't have an expiration date," as what I could remember from the movie Letters To Juliet. And please let's keep it that way, shall we?

"There will be haters, doubters, non-believers, and then there will be YOU, proving them wrong."
Life isn't all rainbows and butterflies. No matter how you try to keep all the good energy and good vibes in the world, there will always be people who like to rain on your parade. I guess we all have our share of negative people. It's inevitable, it's part of life so let's deal with it. I had my experience of one recently and it's sad to say that this will always be the most disappointing and heart-breaking.
So it seems like I haven't blogged for a while now obviously. It has been like three months and a half since my last post which was still dated before my first week of classes in law school. Well, I guess this is the result of that reckless act of making up my mind. So much has happened since June already. Most of the things that happened were actually strange, some things remained just as they were.
"I think the strongest prayer I've ever prayed is a single phrase I declared with great honesty: Lord, I have no idea what You're doing, but I trust you."
"Who gives a damn about your first love? Give a big round of applause for your second love. Because they taught you love still exists, after you thought it never could again."
Okay, so I'm gonna set aside all the fashion lingo for now and just talk about the matters of the heart. I ponder sometimes too, just so you know. I just get lost in this certain moment where I stare blankly and remember random experiences I've had in the past. Recently, it just occurred to me how much of a relief it has been to be finally in a relationship with someone who you know you're ready to be with and who is also ready to be with you. It's like being able to breathe a new kind of air, a better one.
"Que Sera Sera. Whatever will be, will be."

My favorite family picture of us that night
taken at Daru Folkhouse
On the night of the 3rd of April, we celebrated the birthday of a humble and a very influential man. It was actually a surprise party for him, carefully initiated by his youngest brother, my Tito Vincent Demosthenes "Vivic" Quina, along with the help of the entire clan and a few close friends of this special person. But of course, being the sneaky and wise person that he is, he had a feeling that this was gonna happen during the day of his birthday.
Happy #NationalSiblingsDay
"My sisters remind me, by their very steadfastness, that truth, beauty and goodness exist in the world and that no matter what, there are and always will be people loving people through thick and thin."
I gave in to the bandwagon. But whatever, I hope I'm not too late to upload my very own #NationalSiblingsDay post. I just found out about it today. It's not even on the calendar. WTF! Hahaha! Anyways, these two girls on my left and right are my younger sisters Caicai and Greta.
"Start writing, no matter what. The water does not flow until the faucet is turned on."
So here I am, awkwardly congratulating myself for finally making a blog. My family and friends used to bug me to make one and I always had reasons not to, like being too lazy to make one or I never had it in me to share my world to random readers. So yeah, here’s to my loud mind and awkward sense of humor.
Okay… So, if you’re into fashion vices, wintermelon milktea, overdosing on YOLO, getting crazy, being a wanderlust, being a bit of a drama queen, being emotional when you hear the favorite lines of your favorite songs and probably reflecting a lot about your life, well then, I think we would really get along.
Here’s to living louder.
