WHY HONGKONG SHOULD BE YOUR NEXT TRAVEL DESTINATION
9:06 PM
Sun's out in the Philippines but we're trading the heat for something cool and invigorating this summer at Hong Kong. Yup, we're back here again! A few might say that we should have tried a different country this time, but we've decided to explore the other parts of Hong Kong that we haven't visited so that it's a full check on our #bucketlist. Now we get it why tourists from around the world keep on coming back to this place. There's just so many things to try and experience!
This time, we came with Ton's cousins and it did make everything more amusing. Although the squad ain't complete, we still made the most of our trip. We just came out of our hotel and we're ready to take on the day. So, what are some of the things you can enjoy doing in this place?
EAT!
The Chinese have always been fond of drinking warm tea before meals. Most restaurants here serve this before anything else and they don't usually have cold water. You can buy those at convenience stores instead. You have to try their curry and their beef tendons with noodles! And of course, one of my favorite parts was trying out their street food! I'm not kidding, there's a lot to choose from and they actually taste so good. There's plenty of this all over Tsim Sha Tsui.
EXPLORE!
Yes, bring out the Dora The Explorer in you! Satisfy your wanderlust and walk even when those feet hurt. Take the time to read the maps, be observant while you're in the train stations, keep right when you ride the escalators if you're not in a hurry but if you are, take the left side of the escalator because it's for the express lane. They're very disciplined when it comes to that, by the way. "To explore", that might be my favorite word as of now. Did you ever have that ache for distant places? Did you ever have that unexplainable passion to know the whats, wheres, whys and hows of a place? This is it. You're here. Know the answers to your questions through this experience. Indulge yourself.
So our first stop is at Diamond Hill Station where we headed to Nan Lian Garden for some nature-loving. My oh my, you'll get to really appreciate this place. It's like you're in for a throwback to China's ancient culture and heritage. This place has the kind of tranquility you need. The place close to it is the Chi Lin Nunnery where there's a view to look out for too. The best part is that they're both for FREE! It's a venue where the public, especially for tourists, could smoothly delight in.
APPRECIATE!
Always stop to smell the flowers. Though I know how it is a need to take photos for memories, remember to recognize the beauty of the country too. Take time to breathe and admire the view. Learn from their way of life and respect their customs. I've admired how well-taken care of this place is. A nature trip should be a must in your itinerary.
Yup, that's right. I've challenged my acrophobic self once again. Cheers to conquering new heights! I think this will always be a never-ending battle for me. We skipped Disneyland and Ocean Park since we've already visited those last time. As tempting as they both seem, we've agreed to visit places we haven't yet. Now, virtually hold my hand as we ride to...
Here comes the tram, doo doo doo doo! Not gonna spoil the deets on the famous Peak Tram and Sky Terrace but for real adventure lovers, you're gonna be in awe of this spot. It's somewhere... oh you know, just 428 meters above sea level and has a stunning 360 view of the city. No pressure!
The adult price for both the tram and the sky terrace is 90 HKD (1 HKD = 6 Php) and for children, it's 43 HKD per person. It's already a two-way ticket by the way. You just have to endure the long lines because of course, it's a tourist spot! But you can avoid all the waiting by downloading an app called Klook for a faster transaction. (Shhh! Not everybody knows that!) Oh well, it's worth the experience! Just don't forget to bring a coat with you, if you know what I mean.
And there I am, slightly smiling and most of the time shivering, nervously reaching for this excited guy's hand all the time. The scaredy panda and the dauntless freak. What a pair, right?
We found our way to another part of Hong Kong which is Causeway Bay. People do a lot of shopping here because there's a mixture of high-end and affordable shops here. We also saw their very own Times Square here. The journey goes on as we explored Mong Kok, Kowloon and Central.
I hope all this inspired you to travel even more. Don't be afraid to re-explore a country again. It's a great, big world. Surely, you can't visit them all in one trip, that's why you have to make the most of the time you're there. "We travel because we need to, because distance and difference are the secret tonic to creativity. When we get home, home is still the same, but something in our minds has changed, and that changes everything." according to a quote I've come across. I couldn't agree more.
Sending my love to all the fearless, adventure-seeking souls this holy week. Happy reading!

DON'T SETTLE FOR LESS!
If your feet can still take it, push lang ng push! There's plenty of time to rest when you hop on your flight back home. Carpe diem! That was our mindset when we got here. Long live the reckless and the brave, they say.
